About Our Founder
Located in Northern Virginia, ANIMAL ANGEL AID was founded by Debbie Henry, a life-long animal advocate, rescue volunteer, and adopter/failed foster multiple times over. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) dedicated to assisting animal rescues/organizations throughout the U.S. (and abroad) in their efforts to save abandoned and abused dogs and cats (horses and other animals too!).
Our founder, Debbie Henry, always a rescue mom, is a proud parent of Michael the wonder cat, blind from birth due to detached retinas, adopted at 10 months old when he was given up for “missing the litter box” — his family did not even know he was blind. Sam, FIV+ cat – who Debbie rescued from death in Tampa Florida, and is the happiest/most social fun-loving feline in her house, These 2 share space with 3 other playful rescue felines. She was also patient and loving mom to Tux, who was shot in Debbie’s own barn by a neighbor’s child. Tux had to have his front leg amputated after the bullet lodged into his chest and shattered his shoulder and elbow. He lived another 5 fabulous years as a “TRIPOD” sprinting and dashing all over the house like all the rest of his 4-legged companions. The loving vets who cared for Tux, said animals are resilient and fighters when something about their physical form changes….it’s the humans who have the emotion blocks about their so-called disabilities. Tux’s brother, MOE, became diabetic as an adult, and Debbie’s needle phobia quickly changed when she realized how patient and purring Moe always was with his daily double dose of insulin. Happily his diabetes corrected itself over time.
Debbie’s first-hand experience as a repeated SPECIAL ANGELS’ mom, was a “hospice foster” for her local no-kill animal rescue, and rescue volunteer who actively championed for adoption of the SPECIAL ANGELS, is the driving force behind this facet of SPECIAL ANGELS community education of Animal Angel Aid. Zippy, was the canine love of her life, who Zippy’s Fund was affectionately created in honor of.
Her household has always consisted of horses, dogs, cats, fish, orphaned bunnies, a few snakes insistent on living in her barn, and several others animals that crossed her path in need of TLC & a place to call home.
From her childhood years, she truly believed they can all be saved. Now she is continuing to empower an army of rescue angels to make that belief reality.
